Life Reflection

Walter Evans (affectionately known as Butchy) completed his task on earth and earned his Heavenly wings on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the age of 68 in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Born Walter Evans, III on November 9, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Walter Jr. and Alice M. Evans (both of whom preceded him in death), he was the third of four children.

Walter began his educational journey at Burdett Elementary, continuing on to Sawyer Junior High School, and finally attending Withrow High School, where he graduated in 1975. After graduation, Walter briefly attended the University of Cincinnati as a pre-med student. He ultimately joined the United States Navy where he served as a Corpsman at Walter Reed Hospital.  During his four-year service, he earned his LPN license.

After his discharge from service, he settled in Gaithersburg, Maryland where he met Renee Moten and her daughter Tori. Walter and Renee were married in 1998 and set roots for over 40 years.

Walter worked as a carrier for most of his career.  He also worked for a brief period at the Discovery Channel, a job which he really loved.  Walter believed in helping others and volunteered on weekends as an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor at the Quince Orchard Library.

Walter had several hobbies.  He was a voracious reader, he especially enjoyed political intrigue and espionage thrillers.  He considered it a special treat to visit museums and art shows with his granddaughter.  He regularly attended the Blue Angel air shows, vintage car shows, high school basketball and football games.  He was a true beach bum and loved catching the sunrise or sunset over the ocean.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Tori Moten (Kelly); his siblings, Teri Evans, Kenneth Evans (Jenni); granddaughter, Jordyn Moten; nieces and nephews, Kimberly Hawkins (Michael), Martell Evans, Keli Lewis (Jared), Mary Billups (James), Kaneisha Staley (Jermaine), Gabrielle Evans; great nieces and nephews, Khalia Joseph (Daniel), Lai’eris Brown, Londen Brown, Timonthy Furlow, Jr, Madison Hawkins, Ryland Lewis, Jace Lewis and Marlowe Billups; 3 great-great nephews, Cayden Maddox, Levi Joseph and Lennox Joseph and a host of close cousins, relatives and friends.
