March 3rd, 1939 - March 31st, 2026
March 3rd, 1939 - March 31st, 2026
Patrick Martin Connelly, 87, of Potomac, Maryland, peacefully departed on March 31, 2026, surrounded by his family. Mr. Connelly was born on March 3, 1939, in Sharon, Pennsylvania. He was a 1957 graduate of Sharpsville High School and a 1961 graduate of Lehigh University, where he earned a degree in public administration.
He continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a master’s degree in public administration. Capitalizing on his education, Mr. Connelly spent his career in public service as an assistant to Governors William Scranton and Ray Shafer of Pennsylvania, a clerk for Mercer County government and, for most of his career, in various senior roles in the General Services Administration in Washington, DC.
Mr. Connelly was a star football player in high school and college and took enormous pride in his family heritage and history, keeping meticulous records of his family tree. In his later years, he relished the role of grandfather, welcoming his sons and their families to his home in Southport, NC with open arms, cold ice cream, and a hot grill. His grandchildren hold countless fond memories of meals on the back deck looking at the marsh, heated games of mini golf, and fun hours spent at the beach and fishing.
Mr. Connelly is survived by his two sisters, Alice Connelly and Anne Hill (Ted), his two sons, Patrick Mitri Connelly and David Martin Connelly (Jean), and his grandchildren, Patrick Connelly, Lauren Connelly, Sean Connelly, and Weston Connelly. He is predeceased by his father John Andrew Connelly, his mother Cora Grace Connelly (nee Young), and his brothers John Andrew Connelly, Jr., Terence Michael Connelly, and Nicholas James Connelly.
The family plans a private memorial in Sharpsville, PA, in May. Donations in Pat's memory may be made to Casey House https://montgomeryhospice.org/donate-pg/
